Joshimath is one of the four ‘maths’ created by Adi Shankaracharya. Joshimath is the home of Shri Badrinath during winters. Joshimath is connected with Auli by the highest cable car of Asia. Joshimath is situated at an elevation of 1,890mts above sea level. Do visit Kalpavriksha and Narsingh temple while on a visit to Joshimath. It is situated 14kms from Joshimath.Joshimath is the winter seat of Lord Badri.Have your dinner in Badrinath and spend the night here.

BADRINATH TEMPLE

Badrinath is the most sacred dhams of India. It is located at an elevation of 3,133mts above sea level in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. This Dham was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 9th century. The deity of Badrinath temple is Lord Vishnu. The temple is situated on the right bank of the holy Alaknanda River.At a distance of 18 km from Joshimath, Pandukeshwar, as per believe is the place where King Pandu, father of great Pandavas of Mahabharat epic, worshipped Lord Shiva. ... RISHIKESH

Around 174 km from Rishikesh, Karnaprayag is the place where Pindar River, coming from Pindar glacier, amalgamates with Alaknanda River. Located in Chamoli district, the sacred confluence gets its name from Karna, the warrier from Mahabharata. As per a widely accepted belief, this is the place where Karna (warrior from Mahabharata) meditated and acquired Kavacha (armour) and Kundal (earrings) from Lord Surya (Sun), his father. It is also believed to be the place where Lord Krishna performed the last rites of Karna. According to Kalidas’s Abhijanaa-Shakuntalam, Dushyant and Shakuntala’s love affair bloomed at karnaprayag. The great Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda has meditated in this serene and beautiful place for 18 days.
